I am a relaxed storytelling photographer. I specialize in family and motherhood photography. I start out by getting some traditional photos and then move on to more movement and storytelling. I'm there to observe patiently and capture what makes your family unique. The best photos usually unfold around the middle of the shoot once everyone is relaxed, it is a process and it does take time. I don't force poses, I'm there to capture small moments that are unique to every family. I pay special attention to children, it is imperative that they feel a connection with me to be able to open up and be themselves. It is ok and expected for kids to need breaks or to get their wiggles out and even encouraged. A lot of my best work comes when families are in these transition times, relaxed times. I encourage families to always be looking at each other, touching, playing games or cuddling. I love when families are relaxed and just having fun spending time together, it's a beautiful thing to capture!
Sessions are outdoors in natural light during roughly 1 to 2 hours before sunset. I have a lot of beautiful outdoor locations that we can discuss upon booking. Being outdoors can be really fun and the lighting can be amazing. I can bring blankets to these sessions so we can get some shots sitting and or laying down.
I also do indoor sessions for newborns or for families that want to stay in the comfort of their home. These are held in the morning in a room with a lot of natural window light. It can be very personal and cozy to capture memories in your home or even on your porch.
I think it's best to be comfortable and wear something you feel like yourself in. Clothes that allow easy movement are great! I usually tell Mom to pick her outfit first, one that makes her feel comfortable and beautiful and then build the rest from there by pulling colors from her outfit. Mommies, I do encourage you to wear comfortable shoes. You will be moving a lot and carrying your children. I'm happy to help with any clothing questions you may have.
I shoot with a Nikon D750. I primarily use a 35mm and 50mm lens. I love my camera, it handles light well and produces stack sharp images. My lenses keep me close to my families so I can talk to you guys easily and capture all of those small details. You will often see me adjusting settings depending on what type of photos we are taking and if the light is shifting. There are camera adjustments that happen continually throughout a shoot, things like shutter speed and aperature effect the way light is used in the photo.
Once you receive your online gallery you can download your photos in high resolution. Once they are downloaded you can print them on your own or with me for an additional cost. Different vendors do produce different quality and coloring can vary drastically. I recommend using Mpix.com to all of my families. They are not too expensive and they come out beautiful, rich and true to color. A new service I am going to start offering is putting photo books together for those that would like a keepsake. Please let me know if this is something you are interested in doing for an additional cost.
I will email you your gallery from Pixieset no later than 2 weeks after your photoshoot. You can share your gallery with your family and friends right away by forwarding them the email I send you.
I choose the photos for the gallery that I feel represents my work the best. I include a wide variety and always pick the photos that have the best composition, expressions, lighting and connection.
The best time of day to take your photos is during GOLDEN HOUR, which is about 1 hour before sunset. There is some wiggle room here; however the right lighting will greatly enhance your photos. It is really important to arrive on time to your session to make sure we have all of that beautiful light. If it is a cloudy day, sessions can be done earlier in most cases. I have a wide variety of outdoor locations that we can choose from or we can do a more casual shoot in the comfort of your own home. The indoor shoots will be done around 10 in the morning near a large window for optimum lighting. If you are early risers, sunrise is also a beautiful option.
